Should I Learn Guitar to Keep Up With Acoustic DJs? | Sydney Wedding DJ & MC Perspective

I’ve got a confession to make… I’m losing weddings left, right, and centre to acoustic musicians who also DJ. Yep, the ones who strum a guitar during your ceremony, serenade your guests over canapés, and then jump behind the decks like it’s a Saturday night at your favourite club.

And honestly? Fair play to them. They’re talented, they work hard, and couples love that all-in-one solution. It’s the Swiss army knife of wedding entertainment—music for every moment wrapped into one person. Meanwhile, here I am wondering if it’s time to dust off Dad’s old guitar and start practising “Wonderwall.”

But here’s the thing…

While I’m (half) joking about taking singing lessons and learning how to balance a mic stand between mixing tracks, the truth is this: I’m a specialist. My bread and butter is being a dedicated Wedding DJ & MC, and that’s something I don’t take lightly.

Acoustic/DJ combos bring a certain magic, no doubt about it. But when you hire me, you’re getting someone who’s laser-focused on two things:

1. Packing your dancefloor, and

2. Running your night smoothly as an experienced MC.

I’m not changing strings during speeches or switching hats mid-reception. My full attention is on making sure your wedding runs seamlessly from the first welcome to the final track—and that every cue, transition, and announcement is handled with absolute professionalism.

The Takeaway?

There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to wedding entertainment. Whether you go with a multi-talented acoustic musician who also DJs, or a dedicated Sydney Wedding DJ & MC like me, the most important thing is that you book someone who’s invested in your day.

That being said… If you see me shopping for a guitar next week, mind your business.
